MySpace To Get New Look

MySpace is launching a global redesign next week with better navigation and search capabilities in an effort to increase user engagement and broaden the social networking site’s demographic.

The News Corp- owned Web site is set to roll out the first phase of the relaunch on June 18, which will be the first major redesign of the site since it launched in January 2004.

Changes include improved navigation, profile editing, search functions and a redesign of the homepage and MySpaceTV Flash player.

The United States remains the leader in science and technology globally, despite perceptions that the country is losing its competitive edge, according to a new report released today.

According to the RAND Corporation, a non-profit based in Santa Monica, the United Sates accounts for 40 percent of the total world’s spending on scientific research and development, employs 70 percent of the globe’s Nobel Prize winners and is home to three-quarters of the world’s top 40 universities.

Gaming Does Not Lead To Poor Social Skills

People who play video games for long periods of time are not necessarily lonely nerds without social skills according to an Australian study.

The study by Victoria University psychology graduate Daniel Loton revealed that 15 percent of 621 adult respondents were flagged as "problem gamers" who spend more than 50 hours a week playing games.

Pop-ups, love them or hate them, they work. The new ones that slide in slow seem to be less irritating than the old ones that just pop-up. The new ones are un-blockable as well. It seems, if you don’t use a pop-up, but have an opt-in form lower on the page, you get far less sign ups. The other option is to not use either, but use a squeeze page “pre-sale page”. The squeeze page also irritates some people; they just click away.So What To Do?

Here’s how it is supposed to work: You walk into a movie theater, the movie theater sets your mobile phone to vibrate for you. You stroll into a museum, the museum disables the flash on your camera or disables your camera altogether. You get too close to the cockpit, any wireless device at risk of interfering is shut off.

Yahoo said today that negotiations with Microsoft on a partnership or other type of deal have ended without any agreement.

Yahoo said in a statement,"Microsoft representatives stated unequivocally that Microsoft is not interested in pursuing an acquisition of all of Yahoo!, even at the price range it had previously suggested."

Australia Puts Brakes On eBay PayPal Only Plan

EFF Sues Rodeo Group Over Removal Of Videos On YouTube

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has asked a federal court to protect the free speech rights of an animal rights group after its video critiques of animal treatment at rodeos were removed from YouTube because of false copyright claims.

The group Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) is a non-profit that videotapes rodeos in order to expose animal abuse. SHARK posted two dozen videos to YouTube to illustrate animal mistreatment.
